Small bowel infarction mimicking Crohn's ileitis.

چکیده
Despite the advances in vascular surgery and intensive care management, the mortality rate from acute intestinal ischaemia has not improved over the years."2 The advanced age of the patients, the toxic nature of bowel contents and co-existent cardiovascular disease may explain the high mortality rate; the delay in making the diagnosis also may be a major factor. Since there are no reliable laboratory or non-invasive radiological investigations, the diagnosis depends on a high index of clinical suspicion. We report a case illustrating the difficulty in making such a diagnosis, in particular, the problem of distinguishing between small bowel ischaemia and Crohn's disease.

Emergency Laparoscopic Ileocecal Resection for Crohn's Acute Obstruction
INTRODUCTION Emergency surgery for Crohn's disease (CD) is a rare entity, and its indications are scant in the published literature. Emergency laparoscopy for small bowel obstruction has gained wide dissemination with the spread of advanced laparoscopic skills within surgical practice. Therefore, incidental terminal ileitis after exploration might be a more-common finding in the near future, an...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Ileosigmoid fistulas (ISFs) are frequently undiagnosed prior to surgery. This study was designed to describe a polyp or cluster of polyps limited to the sigmoid colon as a marker of ISF in patients with ileitis. This novel finding will increase a gastroenterologist's opportunity to detect them preoperatively and their prognostic implication of worsening ileitis. METHODS Th...

Chronic granuloma of the small intestine was first described by Coombe and Saunders in I813. One hundred years later, Dalziel recognized a condition of chronic interstitial enteritis which was not tuberculous in origin. Regional ileitis, however, did not really come into prominence until 1932, when Crohn, Ginzburg, and Oppenheimer gave it this name, and it is now more popularly known as Crohn's...
